In the late 1700s and 1800s, Americans everywhere shared a common belief called "Manifest Destiny." Manifest Destiny was the belief that the United States had the "God-given" right to expand across the entire continent. They thought that the expansion of the U.S. was both justified and inevitable due to their superior culture.
