About Mrs. Gordon
Hello Families! I am so thankful to be your child's 5th grade teacher this year! Here's a little bit about me.
I am originally from a small town in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. I am the youngest of 3 - having two older brothers. I am a Daddy's Girl through and through. My mom still lives in the same town I grew up in and my daddy and "mamma B" live on Cape Cod.
My husband and I met in Charlotte, NC right after college and we celebrated 20 years of marriage this past October 2017.
I have 2 children - whom your child will hear a lot about this school year. My daughter, Olivia, is 17 years old and a rising Senior at Thales Academy in Apex. My son, Greyson, is 16 years old and a rising Junior at Thales. I am in quite a bit of denial that our Olivia will be graduating from High School this year and heading off to college in the fall! There may be some emotional moments for me this year but I promise to hold it together the best I can. My family is the most precious and important thing to me.
A little over a year ago we rescued our 2 pups - Max & Theo. Technically they are Olivia's dogs (as they were a sweet 16 birthday present), however they have captured all our hearts and if I could bring them to school with me I probably would.
Our family loves to go camping and tries very hard to make last minute trips to Jordan Lake or Lake Badin or even the mountains on Friday afternoons in order to "get away from it all". We find it very relaxing to sit under the trees/stars and listen the peacefulness that surrounds us; s'mores and sparklers don't hurt either. We also love to play board games, which sometimes become quite competitive, as well as go to the movies when time allows.
In my down time (ha ha) I enjoy reading, and am a part of our neighborhood book club, exercising (which I need to do more often) and crafting.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Child Development and Education with a minor in Psychology from SUNY Potsdam and received my Master's Degree in Education from Meredith College. I made the choice to put my career on hold for a bit and stayed home with Olivia and Greyson for 10 years before returning to the classroom. This is my 5th year at Carpenter Elementary and I am very excited to be a part of our incredible 5th grade team!
I have the expectation that everyone will be treated with kindness and respect and that our classroom is a safe place for students to ask questions and be themselves. I have very high behavior and academic expectations as well for my students and believe that we can have fun as long as we continue to get our work completed. I love Kid President and share parts of his book with my students throughout the school year. I truly believe that every child has the ability to learn and that everyone of them are special and unique.
I am looking forward to a challenging, yet fun, year with your child!
